BWI Airport
Inside Look
At BWI Airport, the A/B Connector project by Clark Construction leveraged Reusable Weather Enclosure Systems (RWES) for airport construction protection, site safety, and project continuity. Installed in August 2023, RWES created a temperature-controlled, weather-tight, and sound-reducing building enclosure system that enabled the safe demolition of the terminal—without delays.
Game-Changing Benefits of RWES at BWI Airport
-
Weather protection meant no downtime. RWES allowed crews to work through rain, wind, and extreme temperatures, keeping the project on track and demonstrating the effectiveness of a construction weather enclosure.
-
Deadlines were met without budget overruns. With minimal weather-related delays, Clark avoided costly labor extensions, highlighting the value of temporary enclosures for construction in controlling project costs.
-
Safety improved across the board. The system provided flame-retardant barriers and built-in rails, serving as a reliable construction fall protection system to prevent accidents on site.
-
Work conditions were more comfortable. Teams held safety meetings inside the enclosure and projected visuals directly onto the RWES walls, keeping crews informed and engaged.
A Major Milestone: RWES Removal
By January 2025, the project reached a significant milestone: the structure was weather-tight and temporarily climate-controlled, allowing for the removal of RWES at BWI Airport. This opened the path to installing final finishes, like terrazzo flooring, and completing the connector between the old and new terminal areas.
Clark Construction now plans to use RWES on future projects. By reducing weather-related risks, preventing falls, and maintaining control over costs and scheduling, RWES has proven essential for efficient airport construction protection and overall project success.

Main Purpose
RWES provided a conditioned, safe space where crews could work, hold stand-downs, and conduct foreman meetings, even using it as a projector screen, all while allowing the airport to stay fully operational.

Having the RWES allowed safety stand down meetings and morning foreman's meetings to be conducted in conditioned space. The RWES even was utilized as a projector screen in the morning foreman's meetings to facilitate discussion of ongoing items.
